Hands on Learning is an educational approach where students engage in real-world, practical projects like construction or gardening to build skills, confidence, and school engagement. This methodology improves memory retention, fosters emotional well-being, increases attendance.
The four fundamental elements of Hands on Learning build the wellbeing platform for young people to grow in confidence, engage and achieve at school. Students engage with their learning by feeling safe and connected, having a sense of belonging, feeling that what they are doing at school is purposeful, and believing they are developing meaningful skills to thrive at school, within their community, and into employment.
Students at Hampden P-12 learn how to use a variety of tools safely by being guided through small projects. In semester 2 students apply their skills to planning and creating personalised projects. Students engage in the community with the op shop and Cobden Health once a term. HoL runs with selected students in years 9-12 on a Friday.
