I would like to draw attention to the safety of our students using social media, gaming platforms, Facebook, Tik Tok, Snapchat, the list goes on and on. It is extremely difficult to keep your children from these platforms as they become teenagers in a fast-growing world. Our children have instant access to more information and social connection than ever before, and while this can be a great instrument to build relationships and stay connected it also comes with some powerful downfalls. The disconnect between the written word and the damage it can do are often not realised by young adults.
Our children are writing texts that they may never say in person. Our children/students are kind, empathetic, spontaneous and fiercely protective of each other. With this sometimes comes messages and snaps that are inappropriate, volatile and threatening, which can result in it spilling over into the school environment, damaging friendships and peer connections in the process.
Our job as educators and parents is to keep educating our young adults around the consequences and dangers of inappropriately using social media. Teaching them the skills to block, delete and report unwanted contact. Our recent ‘Do It For Dolly Day’ highlighted the devasting effects cyber bullying can have on our young people. Our students are very strong in knowing the rules of appropriate online etiquette and when used appropriately is a wonderful tool, but they continue to need our ongoing monitoring, education and support to manage the use of online platforms in a responsible manner. Thank you to all our families who continue to work with the school and the community in supporting our students to use these platforms effectively.
Take care,

These two amazing students have been working on a private project with the aim to support the homeless in our local area.
They noticed the amount of homeless when in Colac during their swimming programme.
We have contacted Salvation army in Colac and they would be grateful of support. They suggested items that would be of use for the homeless are
Food, sanitary items, jumpers, beanies, scarves, blankets etc.
There is also an initiative called the Otway TentCare, where new and used tents can be donated and the initiative will fix them and redistribute to those in need in our community.
If you are able to help in any way please bring items to school by June 11th and we will then have a trip to Colac Salvation Army to deliver the much needed items.
Thanks for your support
