Newsletter 28th July, 2022.

From the Principal

Term 3 is well and truly underway, teachers are busy setting new goals for the Semester 2 learning plans and look forward to meeting with families on Monday at our SSG meetings. I hope everyone received the information regarding SSG meetings and the form to seek your feedback and input into the goal setting. The information was sent home with your child on Tuesday so if you have not received it the chances are high that it is in the bottom of their schoolbag!

Meeting times for the SSG meetings are to be booked online through the Xuno app but if you are having any problems booking online please contact your child’s teacher. If possible, it is highly valuable for your child to attend these meetings and have input into setting their goals, this is particularly important for our older students.

This term staff will undertake Berri Street Trauma training alongside The Cobden Technical School staff on the Wednesday of the last week of term. This training is highly regarded and we are very lucky to secure the expertise of the Berri Street team to further deepen our understanding of teaching students that have experienced trauma.

Our Terang students and our Middle Years students are all looking forward to camp this term and as an added bonus there will be no costs for these camps as they are all fully funded by ‘Positive Start’, a program offered through the Education Department. Terang students are going to Blackwood camp and the Middle Years students to Anglesea.

Our school concert will also be performed at the Cobden Civic Hall this term, Wednesday 31st August at 7pm. The students and staff are excitedly planning their performances. We are looking forward to meeting in the community once again after all the disruptions of the last couple of years. Our last live performance was in 2018 and the online digital version in 2020.

Take care

Kylie Carter

Early Years Report

Middle Years 2022 - Term 3, Week 2 & 3

Davey’s Class

Our students have begun this term by revising their adding skills in maths, it’s great to see students using a variety of strategies to help them solve addition problems. We will continue to develop these skills throughout the Term.

Lucy’s Class

Our room has been working very hard to practice our reading and improve our fluency. This term we started a daily five for reading. In this we practice reading to our self, reading to an adult, word building with letter tiles and occasionally we do a read and draw activity. The boys are enjoying the different hands on activities to help with their reading and we are already seeing knowledge of new words!

Ashleigh also works hard on her own version of daily five where she helps read aloud to an adult and then identifies sight words and spells them out with her beanbags.

Leigh’s Class

This semester years 6,7,8 are researching an animal. In this report we are making sure that we document our sources and that we attempt to write the information in our own words.

Animals chosen by the class include:

  • Water Buffalo
  • Red-Bellied Snake
  • Grizzly Bear
  • Dingo
  • Bearded Dragon
  • Dolphin

All students are working hard to include all the facts.

It has been a fortnight for birthdays with Zerik and Lilly turning 18 and Connor 16. We are proud to announce that Zerik has earned his P plates and is now on the road solo.

Winter Landscapes

The Winter weather has certainly hit!

Students from Leigh and Lyn’s classes were inspired by the current climate and created some lovely painted landscapes, using the white Birch trees as a starting point.
