Newsletter 8th August, 2024.

From the Principal

The term is off to a strong start, thank you to all the parents that attended the SSG meetings on Monday they are an important part of your child’s educational plan. Teachers will finalise goals this week and the student’s will be working hard towards their new learning goals.

Thank you to the parents that have already completed the Parent Survey, if you have not completed the survey would be great if you could find 10 minutes to complete it, you should have received an email with the log in details and the paper note at your SSG meeting. If you need the details, please call the office on 55951995 for the information. This information is vital for the school to understand your position and improvements that we need to make. This is also the measure that the Education Department use to analyse our school data.

I would like to thank Brad and all the Hampden staff for an outstanding job at running the school whilst I was on leave, it is very reassuring to know we have such a caring, competent staff that continue to work as normal.

Our focus remains on the importance of attendance at school and the strong alliance between the best possible outcomes and high attendance rates. If your child is away please either contact the office or record the reason on XUNO.  If you are having any problems with XUNO please contact your teacher or the office.

It is pleasing to report that the student’s are showing high levels of kindness and compassion to each other, we have worked extensively on understanding bullying and the importance of treating everyone with respect.

Take care,

Kylie Carter,
Principal.

Book Week at Hampden

Book Week is 17th - 23rd August.

We will be holding a whole school event on Tuesday 20th August. All students are invited to dress up as a book character and express this year’s theme, “Reading is Magic”.

Middle Years Active Sportz

During Term Three, the Middle Years students have been participating in Active Sportz. In Active Sportz we have been learning about soccer skills, soccer drills and competing against one another in soccer matches with the help of Raf. On Fridays, we travel by bus to Warrnambool where Active Sportz is held at the Indoor Netball/Cricket/Soccer centre. It has been a lot of fun with Raf teaching us, and we have learned about supporting one another, helping each other and working together as a team.

“We are learning how to do soccer drills with Raf” Jesse

“I like playing soccer in teams” Thomas

“My favourite part of Active Sportz is when we get to play the soccer game where we have to dribble the ball around the cones” Kenz

“When I was the goal keeper, I got hit in the face by the ball!” Ella

“I like playing soccer games and practising skills” Tyler

“I enjoyed participating in everything I didn’t know how to do and learning the great things that Raf has now taught me” Jessica

CHANGE OF DATE FOR THE BALL: 18th October, 2024.

BULLYING NO WAY !!

Monday 12th to Friday 16th August

This year's theme is: Everyone Belongs.

When we feel like we belong, bullying struggles to find a place. It's about embracing who we are, respecting everyone's differences and standing up together against unkindness.

Belonging means we all have a role in preventing bullying. We're encouraged to speak up and create a safe place where everyone feels supported and respected, and our voices are heard and valued.

During Bullying No Way Week, staff will incorporate the theme into their daily programme with a focus on strategies to help students feel they BELONG  at our school and build the confidence to speak up when needed

Please take a look at our upcoming events.

From Parents Association and a link to their Activities Questionnaire

Please help our newly forms Parents Association with planning of events and activities and complete this survey.

A Parents Association for Hampden Specialist School has recently been formed by some parents from both campuses. If you are interested in being apart of all the exciting things we have planned for the following year or would like to help out at an upcoming event feel free to contact Kristie Simpson on 0488 431083

The primary goals  of the parents Association are

  • To provide support/fellowship for parents at the school
  • To raise money for equipment for the school through fundraising
  • To organise beneficial activities for the school community
  • To encourage parent/guardian participation and contribute within the school on a broader basis
  • To provide affordable fund raising activities that can reach the broader community as to not put extra financial pressure on the school community
  • Hold activities and meetings that allow for inclusiveness for all that want to be involved

Our first fundraiser is going to be the Tom and Jerry Movie which we will be screening at the Terang Campus in the holidays. For more details see the attached flyer

We have already atarted the Gather My Crew Initiative at the school which is an app that allows for people within the school community to help out each other where needed. We have already gotten to use it once where we were able to get meals to a family that had a parent in the hospital.

If you would like to be part of the initiative contact Kristie Simpson and she will send you the details also if you know someone in need of some help let us know and we will find a way to Gather Our crew.

We look forward to many more exciting things coming this year. Enjoy your holidays and we hope to see as many of you as we can at the movies.
