Newsletter 13th July, 2023.

From the Principal

Welcome to Term 3, we are looking forward to the term ahead with lots of exciting things happening including school camps, winter sports, passport to employment and many other interesting learnings.

The working group for renaming the school has had their second meeting and after many suggestions we have narrowed the selection to 5. We thank everyone that has taken the time to suggest names that capture our school across Cobden and Terang. Your child will be receiving a note so you can rate the names from 1-5 for preference, we are still accepting name suggestions and are waiting for the Traditional Owners to submit suggestions also.

The new campus in Terang is on track for us to move into in the September school holidays, the building is amazing including a gym, separate art spaces and 4 spacious classrooms. We are very excited to be able to learn from this new facility.

The planning for the new build of Middle Years in Cobden is on track and will hopefully begin construction early in 2024.

This term we have a focus on bus behaviour, in particular students leaving their seatbelts on whilst they are on the bus, we have had a few incidents of students removing their seatbelts and refusing to put them back on, if this happens the student will be excluded from bus travel for 1 day as directed by the bus driver. We will also be working on respectful language towards staff and peers, if students use inappropriate language parents will be informed.

On a positive note we look forward to a productive term filled with learning and fun!

Take care,

Kylie Carter

Early Years News

Davey's Classroom Shop

Welcome back to Hampden Specialist School for Term 3. We are setting up a shop in our classroom to develop our maths and social skills.

Davey’s students have decided to construct a shop in our room where we can practise buying things. We have begun setting up the shop and are now looking for interesting things to ‘sell/buy’ in our shop. We will be pricing each item and allocating money to each student so that they can shop for things they would like.

Later Years Update

Woven Clay Pots

The students in Letesha and Leigh’s class were getting their hands dirty (literally) before the school holidays and completed their hand-built clay pots. They added woven detail, taking inspiration from Indigenous artists, and the end results are amazing!
