Newsletter 20th October 2022.

From the Principal

The term is well and truly underway, with students and teachers working hard on finalising their goals and assessments. Lots of excursions and end of year activities are being organised and we thank you for getting the notes back so quickly.

We have discontinued the use of Skoolbag and are now using Xuno for notifications. Thank you to the parents that are using Xuno as the platform to record reasons why your child is absent. Some permission forms will be starting to appear here also, and you will be able to digitally sign permission forms and pay monies. We encourage all parents to utilise Xuno as it saves forms and money being lost forever in the bottom of schoolbags.

We are busily planning for our year 12 graduation which will be at the Cobden Golf Club December 1st.  Our annual Presentation of Awards is Thursday 8th December in the Later Years building at 1pm, we welcome everyone to celebrate our student success.

Our school student survey reflected very positive results, with over 80% of students agreeing that Hampden Specialist School demonstrates ‘Effective Teaching Practice for Cognitive Engagement’. In a nutshell this means that students believe their teachers believe in them and provide learning opportunities that are suitable, enjoyable and allows them to learn. This is a very pleasing result! Keep up the good work everyone.

Take Care

Davey’s Class News

We have been focusing on operations in Maths over the past few weeks in Davey’s class and some students have been learning to subtract larger number using MAB blocks to help them. It has been great to see students apply themselves and improve their Maths skills.

Lucy's Class News

Lucy’s room have started to embrace the Halloween spirit this term. We got some paper mache pumpkins and have started to cover them in a colour of our choosing. We have some normal looking orange pumpkins and some mutant pink and blue pumpkins, perfect for Halloween!

Once we have covered them with colour we will draw on some spooky faces. Hopefully we will have them finished soon so we can send them home in time for Halloween trick or treating!

Mental Health Month

Hello, October is World Mental Health Day and this year's theme is all about making mental health and wellbeing a priority for all of us.
The theme for Mental Health Month is Tune In

Tuning In means being present – being aware of what's happening within you, and in the world around you.

Tune In to your senses – what can you sense right now? What can you feel?

  • Tune In to your communities– what’s happening that you can be part of, or that you can help others be part of?
  • Tune In to stigma– how do attitudes and understandings of mental health and wellbeing impact people’s ability to live the lives they want
